How to Find a Legal Sportsbook
Several states have recently made it legal to bet on sports. These states include Arizona, Colorado, and Kansas. There are several different types of sportsbooks. These include online, mobile, and land-based. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. You may want to check out all of these options before you place a bet.
Legalized sports betting in Arizona
Earlier this year, the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe filed a lawsuit against the Arizona Department of Gaming to block the state from issuing sports betting licenses. The lawsuit states that the law is unconstitutional.
The lawsuit is filed by the Yavapai-Prescott Indian Reservation, which runs the Bucky’s Casino in Prescott. The tribe claims that the state is forcing them to participate in sports betting games on state-owned land.
The tribe also claims that the law is unconstitutional because it violates Proposition 202, which states that only Arizona-based Indian tribes can participate in betting games on Indian lands. The tribe also claims that they were not involved in the negotiations for the 2021 Amended Compact, which opened the door to sports wagering.
The Yavapai-Prescott Indian Tribe’s lawsuit against the state was filed in August. They claim that the law is unconstitutional because the legislature failed to make the bill clearer on its website.
The Yavapai-Prescott Tribe is not the only tribe to file a lawsuit against Arizona sports betting. Five other tribes also filed lawsuits. In late January, the Arizona Department of Gaming reported that 466 million wagers were placed in November.
The Arizona Department of Gaming expects that legal sports betting will generate $30 million in tax revenue and $34.2 million in General Fund revenue annually by 2024. In addition, the state expects to generate $200 million in business activity by 2021.
Legalized sports betting in Colorado
During the first year of legalized sports betting in Colorado, the number of sportsbooks operating in the state nearly doubled. This was driven by an engaged fanbase and favorable conditions.
The Colorado Division of Gaming oversees the new industry. They have implemented programs to educate casino employees and offer support to problem gamblers. They are also reviewing best practices from other states.
Colorado’s sports betting market is expected to continue growing. The state’s Department of Revenue reported that in May, $25.6 million in sports bets were made. The 6.4 percent hold percentage was second-lowest among states with legalized sports betting in 2020.
There are currently 26 sportsbooks in Colorado. Many of these sites have been launched in the last few months, and more are expected to enter the market soon. Some are also available online. These sites may offer fractional odds, decimal odds, or even mobile apps.
Players must be at least 21 years old and physically located in Colorado. They may also be required to provide a driver’s license or social security number. Depending on the sportsbook, players can choose to fund their accounts with a credit card, PayPal, or a checking account.
Colorado sportsbooks are also available to people outside the state. Players can place bets in-house or on the sportsbook’s website.
Legalized sports betting in Kansas
Until now, Kansas was one of the few states without legalized sports betting. But the state is finally on the move. On May 12, 2022, Governor Laura Kelly signed into law a bill that will make it possible to place wagers on sports.
The bill will allow four licensed casinos in the state to offer sports betting, with no more than three sites available online. It will also allow for up to 50 businesses to partner with casinos for in-person betting.
The bill was also designed to allow the state of Kansas to take a 10% cut of all bets. This will go to a fund to attract professional sports teams, but a major part of the revenue will go towards problem gambling prevention efforts.
There is a growing list of sites that have announced partnerships with the Kansas sports betting law. Some of them are already established in other states, while others are coming soon.
One site that is expected to be a leader in the state is FanDuel, a popular online fantasy sports website that has expanded into the betting market. In addition to offering free bets and bonuses, the site offers daily odds boosts, one-off promotions, and live music.
The law also allows Kansas bettors to place wagers on their favorite NFL teams. This will enable fans to support their favorite teams and players.
